Special Virtuosi is a project for children and young people with learning disabilities to enable them to benefit from musical games and activities, and to give them the opportunity to play a musical instrument.  Participants will

1. Enjoy music making and a variety of musical games with the support of student tutors from Birmingham Conservatoire.

2. Have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.

3. Have the experience of playing in ensemble with other musicians.

4. Take part in concerts which will take place at the end of every term.

5. Benefit from social interaction with other participants and with student tutors.

6. Give opportunities to Birmingham Conservatoire Students, Instrumental teachers of the future, to experience working with people with learning disabilities.

Special Virtuosi Sessions take place at 6pm on Mondays during term time in the New Lecture Theatre at Birmingham Conservatoire.  There will be ten sessions per term at a cost of £50 payable at the beginning of term.  In January 2010, a second hour, 7.-8pm, will be available for those who wish to play an instrument in ensemble with support from the Conservatoire tutors.  Participants do not need to attend both sessions.
